Living in a time when it was scandalous even to show a bit of ankle\, asmall number of courageous women covered their bodies in tattoos andtraveled the country\, performing nearly nude on carnival stages. Thesegutsy women spun amazing stories for captive audiences about abductionsand forced tattooing at the hands of savages\, but little has beenshared of their real lives. Though they spawned a culturalmovement--almost a quarter of Americans now have tattoos--these womenhave largely faded into history.

The first book of its kind\, The Tattooed Lady uncovers the true stories behind these women\, bringing them out of the sideshow realm and into their working class realities. Combining thorough research with more than a hundredhistorical photos\, this social history explores tattoo origins\, women's history\, and circus lore. A fascinating read\, The Tattooed Lady pays tribute to a group of unique and amazing women whose legacy lives on.

About the book\:

Each song on Julian’s iPod\, “that greatest of all human inventions\,” is a touchstone. There are songs for the girls from when he was single\, there’s the one for the day he met his wife-to-be\, there’s one for the day his son was born. But when Julian’s family falls apart\, even music loses its hold on him.

Until one snowy night in Brooklyn\, when his life’s soundtrack—and life itself—start to play again. Julian
stumbles into a bar and sees Cait O’Dwyer\, a flame-haired Irish rock singer\, performing with her band\, and a strange and unlikely love affair is ignited. Over the next few months\, Julian and Cait’s passion plays out\, though they never meet. What follows is a heartbreaking dark comedy\, the tenderest of love stories\, and a perfectly observed tale of the way we live now.

Here's a review of the book from WORD manager Stephanie Anderson\:

&quot\;Mandel's new novel\, like LAST NIGHT IN MONTREAL\, is practically bashful about how clever and well-constructed it is. So let me tell you. It has a subtle grace\, marvelous characters\, and places that are just as alive as the people. And like MONTREAL\, there are many scenes and images from it that are still with me. I think I will never pass anglass-windowed office building without thinking about this book.&quot\;

Blame Accountants set up impromptu “headquarters” in areas where there is a high frequency of collective blame--Ground Zero\, the Republican National Convention\, the Democratic National Convention and Wall Street. Sitting unassumingly at a desk with a typewriter and red phone\, Blame Accountants invite passersby to blame\, record\, and
reflect. Who has wronged you? What does it mean to take accountability for the actions—or inactions-of people\, groups\, and systems that have wronged you?

<a href=\\"http\://officeofblame.com/\\">The Office of Blame Accountability\, a highly revealing and original look at the culture of finger pointing in America today. In the book\, chief Blame Accountants\, artists Carla Repice and Geoff Cunningham\, make public for the first time the forms filled out by Americans across the country. They provide an intimate look at the mindset of a country beleaguered by war\, the drama of national politics\, and the collapse of financial markets—as well as the more private and personal dilemmas that we each carry with us.
