WORD invites North Brooklyn's romance lovers to join us in celebrating romance with a fantastic panel of writers and readers! The panel will include Lauren Willig, author of the bestselling Pink Carnation series; acclaimed author and blogger Sarah Wendell from SmartBitchesTrashyBooks.com; Hope Tarr, author and co-founder of Lady Jane's Salon, New York's monthly romance reading series; and editors from Romantic Times magazine and Avon Books. Moderated by Sarah MacLean, author of Nine Rules To Break When Romancing a Rake, the panel discussion and Q&A will uncover the genre--highlighting the books we love and the readers who love it. Facebook RSVP encouraged.
Heather will demo how to make several fun toys from the book, which contains 101 Clever Creations Using Everyday Items! There will be a craft for both kids and adults to enjoy. Bring the whole family for an afternoon of fun! Facebook RSVP encouraged.
An ingeniously simple and fully-illustrated book for crafting toys from objects found around the house.
This clever guide focuses on fun, homemade projects using materials
anyone can find around the house or that can be purchased for a fraction
of what a commercially-produced toy can cost. Using everyday objects
from cardboard tubing to paper to clothespins, readers will discover how
to make such projects as:
* A milk carton balloon boat
* A rubber band banjo
* A cardboard tube kaleidoscope
* An embroidery hoop tambourine
* And more
Perfect for parents and teachers, these projects enable families to
spend less while keeping entertained. Because fun doesn't always have to
come in a box-sometimes, it's the box itself.

Join us for a evening with Christopher McDougall, author of Born to Run, A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen.
An inspiration to amateur and professional runners alike, McDougall has forever changed the way we experience and enjoy running. (Our store manager was so moved by this book that she started WORD's weekly running group, which meets in front of the store every Sunday morning to run around Greenpoint!) McDougall will read, take questions, and sign books.
Due to McDougall's popularity and our limited space, this is a ticketed event. The ticket price of $25 includes one copy of Born To Run, which you'll receive at the door that evening. Click below to reserve your spot!
