Join us for an Indie Press Night with Dalkey Archive and New Directions! We'll have readings and discussion with authors and translators from these two wonderful independent presses. Facebook RSVP encouraged but not required.

Featuring:

Joshua Cohen was born in 1980 in New Jersey. He is the author of five books, including the novels Cadenza for the Schneidermann Violin Concerto and A Heaven of Others. Cohen's essays have appeared in the Forward, Tablet, the Believer, and Harper's. He will be reading from WITZ, published this spring by Dalkey Archive Press.

Alex Zucker has been translating from Czech since 1990. His translation of Jáchym Topol’s first novel, City Sister Silver (Catbird Press, 2000), was selected for inclusion in the 2006 guide 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die. His last translation was the novel All This Belongs to Me by Petra Hůlová (Northwestern University Press, 2009). As a resident of Greenpoint since 1995, he is thrilled to be reading at WORD. He will be reading from CASE CLOSED, by Patrik Ourednik, published this spring by Dalkey Archive Press.

Thalia Field is the author of POINT AND LINE (New Directions, 2000), INCARNATE: STORY MATERIAL (New Directions, 2004), and a "performance-novel" ULULU (CLOWN SHRAPNEL (Coffee House Press, 2007). Her latest book BIRD LOVERS, BACKYARD is coming out this April with New Directions. She is currently on the faculty of the Graduate Writing Program at Brown University.

Natasha Wimmer studied Spanish at Harvard. She translated Roberto Bolano's 2666 (FSG), THE SAVAGE DETECTIVES (FSG), and ANTWERP (New Directions). She is presently working on Bolano's essay collection BETWEEN PARENTHESES for New Directions (Spring, 2011).
